At Dale, we believe in developing a love for English that encourages children to make links between their speaking, reading and writing.
Children start their journey into writing in Foundation Stage 2, where they are exposed to a range of stimulating texts within their provision. Opportunities are provided for children to mark make using a range of medium and they are encouraged to link meanings to the marks they make.
As children progress through the Key Stages, they continue to develop their writing skills, and the texts they explore will inspire creativity in their writing. We encourage enthusiasm for the subject by exploring different genres, audiences, and purposes for writing, whilst exposing children to a wide range of vocabulary and texts.
We want to improve our children’s use of grammatical accuracy and so Rainbow Grammar will be introduced in the Autumn term of 2023. This will support children’s ongoing development, allowing our children to concentrate on ‘writing for the reader’.

You will be:
Learning to read easily, fluently and with good understanding
Developing the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information
Acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language
Appreciating our rich and varied literary heritage
Writing clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences
Using discussion in order to learn; they should be able to elaborate and explain clearly their understanding and ideas
Developing competency in the arts of speaking and listening, making formal presentations, demonstrating to others and participating in debate.

Teaching Assistants have used Precision Teaching to help some children to develop their reading skills.

Our academic afterschool clubs were led by our own staff. In the Summer term these clubs helped an additional 3 children to meet age related expectations in writing and an additional 4 children in reading.
